During the January – August nesting season, the rare green turtle and the hawksbill turtle can be seen on the beach at the resort. There is a dedicated Turtle Ranger to make sure these rare creatures experience minimum disruption during their annual pilgrimage whilst also enabling interested guests to witness egg-laying from a non-intrusive position. The beaches are not lit at night and the exterior lights of the hotel are designed so that the turtles are not put off from coming ashore and this has proven to be extremely effective. Although they are not aware of it, the nesting turtles are nurtured during their time ashore and temporary barriers are erected to protect their nests until the eggs hatch.
The hotel also conducts staff training and employs a considerable number of local people and are in the process of forming an Energy Saving Committee which will be responsible for recycling and water preservation.

The holiday to Oman was a Bushbaby recommendation and much nicer than I had expected. The service was excellent and there were numerous examples of when staff went out of their way to help us. Location was super and facilities were also excellent – we thoroughly enjoyed the resort. Having slightly older children, Al Bandar would have probably been slightly better (although more expensive) but it wasn’t a problem.

We enjoyed our week long family holiday at Al Waha but would have preferred to have stayed at Al Bandar as it had a better reception area, pool and beach area and much nicer restaurants (Bushbaby Note – please note the only interconnecting rooms are located at Al Waha). Our children are 9 and 5 years old but unfortunately the Little Turtles kids’ club at Al Waha was more suitable for pre-school children with little to interest our kids. We dropped them off once at the kids’ club but picked them up 10 minutes later as we felt sorry for them. It was our first trip to the Middle East and we enjoyed the area and took one trip into the interior to visit the Fort at Nizwa and the Grand Canyon of Oman – it was a worthwhile day out although tiring as we covered 550 km in one day. Re: service at the hotel, be warned that service levels pale in comparison to hotels in South East Asia. We loved the beachfront seafood restaurant, Bait al Bahr, and the Middle Eastern buffet at Al Tanoor. We did not like the pricey restaurants at Al Husn hotel despite their incredible setting overlooking the resort and sea. Sultanah was terrible! Our kids loved the Lazy River, the Adventure Zone, the internet cafe, the pool at Al Bandar, playing football and volleyball on the beach, riding camels on the beach, tubing behind the hotel’s speedboat and taking a sunset cruise on a gigantic catamaran. The souk in Old Muscat is worth seeing as well. The hotel provides a free bus shuttle every evening to the souk. All in all, a good holiday.

"I LOVED the hotel, it was my second visit. The location is so nice but the hotel service makes it so much more special which was why I returned. Practically every member of the staff went out of their way to make sure that I was well looked after, nothing was too much trouble for them. As a female, travelling alone I felt safe at all times there and being deaf, the reception desk had my mobile number and would text me to see if there were anything they could do for me. The lifeguards sometimes would come to me with a fresh cool-box full of cold bottled water. Perfect! The food is wonderful and you can tell they are proud of it."
